The Cubs and White Sox face-off this weekend both on the field and in your home. Control your team’s fate in the Crosstown Classic when you upcycle your Garrett tins into a game of checkers*!

What you’ll need for this Tinnovation:

  • One Comiskey Field Shorty Pack
  • One Wrigley Field Shorty Pack
  • Paper, two different colors
  • Scissors or cutting device
  • Ruler
  • Tape (optional)

Step-by-steps:

  1. Share your shorty packs with friends!
  2. Collect, wash and dry each empty tin.
  3. Cut each color of paper into (32) 6″ x 6″ squares. There will be 64 squares total. Adhere tape to the back of each square to prevent your checkerboard from shifting, if desired.
  4. Lay paper out on the floor, alternating colors to mimic a checkerboard. The board should be 8 squares wide in each direction.
  5. Suspend friendships. Place Comiskey and Wrigley Field tins on opposing sides and commence Crosstown Checkers!
  6. Resume friendships with post-game Garrett Popcorn.

Tinnovate: Upcycle your Garrett Tin to a Clock!

Gone in 60 seconds? Time your next treat time with a Garrett clock!

What you’ll need for this Tinnovation:

  • One Garrett tin lid
  • A clock kit
  • Large piece of paper
  • Hardware needed to assemble clock (refer to instructions)

Step-by-steps:

  1. Finish your Garrett Popcorn!
  2. Wash and dry the tin and lid.
  3. Set aside the body of the tin. Consider converting it into an ice chest.
  4. Locate the center of your tin lid: Trace the outline of your Garrett tin lid on a piece of paper. Fold the paper in half twice to form 4 quarters.  This will give you the true center.
  5. Place the template inside the lid and punch a pilot hole in the center.
  6. Assemble according to the clock kit instructions.
  7. Proudly hang your Garrett clock on the wall. Count down to your next Chicago Mix time!

Tinnovate: Upcycle your Garrett Tin to Stilts!

Garrett Popcorn is a great pick-me-up and lift-me-up! Turn your empty tins into stilts when you want to stand a little taller.

What you’ll need for this Tinnovation*:
*Seek adult supervision if necessary.

  • Two Garrett Tins
  • Two ropes, at least 4′-0″ each
  • Good balance

Step-by-steps:

  1. Finish your Garrett Popcorn!
  2. Wash and dry both tins.
  3. Tie each end of the rope around the base of the handle close to the tin. Repeat with other tin.
  4. Carefully place each foot atop each tin. Hold the rope to be taut when standing straight.
  5. Pick up your foot and hand in unison on each side and take a step. Walk tall!
