Wilco The Whole LoveHey Wilco fans! When you purchase Wilco‘s new album The Whole Love at Garrett Popcorn Shops, $2 will be donated to the Jane Addams Hull House Association. The CD will be available tomorrow (9/27/11) at our 625 North Michigan Avenue, 26 West Randolph, Navy Pier, and Merchandise Mart locations.

Both Wilco and Garrett Popcorn believe in giving back to the community. We chose Jane Addams Hull House because of their work in improving social conditions for under-served people in Chicago.

The organization provides child care, domestic violence counseling and prevention, economic development, family services, job training, literacy training, senior service, foster care, independent living, and housing assistance for 60,000 children, families and community members each year. Hull House also advocates for social and public policy reforms and initiatives that impact the lives of the men, women, and children in the communities they serve.

Bears Safety Chris Harris loves Twitter, football fans, and Chicago, so yesterday he and Sun-Times Reporter Sean Jensen decided to combine all three in a tour of the city. Along the way, the duo bowled, test drove an Audi, had lunch at a local spot, and interacted with fans and Twitter throughout the day.

Chris is a fan of The Chicago Mix, so naturally Garrett Popcorn had to be a stop in his tour of Chicago. Chris and Sean swung by Garrett Popcorn at the Merchandise Mart and handed out gift cards for free popcorn to fans. One lucky fan walked away with an autographed Chicago Bears Tin filled with The Chicago Mix.

Merchandise MartOn August 25th, 2009, we opened our 7th Chicagoland location in Chicago’s iconic Merchandise Mart.  In doing so, we combined two long-time Chicago Traditions, gourmet popcorn and fine architecture.

Now, we’re celebrating the 1-year anniversary of our Merchandise Mart location. Here’s some fun trivia you may not know about the Mart:

  • The Merchandise Mart was built by Marshall Field & Co.
  • When it opened in 1930, it was the world’s largest building
  • The Merchandise Mart housed the CTA’s headquarters on the 7th floor from 1947 to 2004
  • In the 1993 film The Fugitive, police pinpoint Harrison Ford’s character after hearing a recording of a CTA train operator announce, “Next stop, Merchandise Mart”

If you haven’t been able to visit our Merchandise Mart location, we hope you will do so very soon! We’re located on the 2nd Floor Food Court next to the CTA’s elevated train platform.
