2012 was a popping year! In between the introduction of new limited edition flavors like Garrett KettleCorn & The Lover’s Mix, and with the generosity of our customers, we ran charitable programs to support The HistoryMakers, A Silver Lining Foundation, and Lurie Children’s Hospital Heroes for Life program.
We celebrated the spirit of the summer games with the introduction of our Americana Tin, and fans predicted the outcome of this year’s presidential election by choosing between Democratic or Republican lids for our limited edition Election Tin.
In 2012, you could find Garrett Popcorn Shops® all around town: at BMO Harris Magnificent Mile Lights Festival®, debuting our Tins the Season float in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and at Navy Pier’s Winter Wonderfest. We reached our 63rd anniversary on September 18, and started a new tradition of celebrating the Garrett legacy with our fans.
There were a few brushes with fame as well. Fans spotted us on episodes of Dateline, Glee, Delicioso, The View, Happy Endings, How I Met Your Mother, The Steve Harvey Show, and The Conan O’Brien Show. We also had the opportunity to partner with The Simpsons for a 500th Episode Commemorative Tin and were graced with Oscar’s presence at our O’Hare Shop.
This December, Garrett Popcorn Shops® helped Banana Republic stores share the joy. Thousands of visitors to Banana Republic Shops in the United States and Canada were treated to a complimentary sample of The Chicago Mix. Speaking of Canada, we also started shipping The Chicago Mix to our Northern fans!
We expanded our domestic Shops in October with a move to a larger kitchen facility as well as a grand opening in Las Vegas at the Miracle Mile Shops®, Planet Hollywood. A new Las Vegas Skyline Tin was released to commemorate the occasion. We grew internationally, too, with new Garrett Shops opening in Kuwait and an announcement for our new Shop in Tokyo.
