Take me out to the ball game, Take me out with the crowd, Buy me some POPCORN and…

Okay, so maybe that’s not how the song goes…but we can dream! And with our two Chicago baseball teams facing off this week, it might not be such a bad idea to grab some Garrett Popcorn and enjoy the game!

We love the Crosstown Classic at Garrett Popcorn. What’s not to love? Our two hometown teams the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs face off against each other in this annual battle. No matter what side you’re on, The City of Chicago has baseball fever!

We have fans from both sides in our office, and The Windy City banter is endless fun. Well, assuming you’re on the winning side…

Part two of Chicago’s Summer baseball rivalry starts this evening on the Southside. Whether you’re rooting for the Cubs or the White Sox in the Crosstown Classic, we know that everyone wins with The Chicago Mix! Order online or pick up your favorite team tin in Shops on the way to the game.

Though we love CaramelCrisp® and CheeseCorn™ equally at Garrett Popcorn Shops®, we know our staff is divided in its baseball loyalties. We placed a Comiskey Park Tin and a Wrigley Field Tin filled with Chicago Mix in the kitchen to report back on whether the Cubs or Sox fans snack their way to victory first! Go team!

The Cubs and White Sox face-off this weekend both on the field and in your home. Control your team’s fate in the Crosstown Classic when you upcycle your Garrett tins into a game of checkers*!

What you’ll need for this Tinnovation:

  • One Comiskey Field Shorty Pack
  • One Wrigley Field Shorty Pack
  • Paper, two different colors
  • Scissors or cutting device
  • Ruler
  • Tape (optional)

Step-by-steps:

  1. Share your shorty packs with friends!
  2. Collect, wash and dry each empty tin.
  3. Cut each color of paper into (32) 6″ x 6″ squares. There will be 64 squares total. Adhere tape to the back of each square to prevent your checkerboard from shifting, if desired.
  4. Lay paper out on the floor, alternating colors to mimic a checkerboard. The board should be 8 squares wide in each direction.
  5. Suspend friendships. Place Comiskey and Wrigley Field tins on opposing sides and commence Crosstown Checkers!
  6. Resume friendships with post-game Garrett Popcorn.

How do you reuse your Garrett tins? Submit a photo of your project and enjoy other upcycling ideas here.

*According to our Crosstown Checkers record, the Cubs are currently in the lead.
