87th Street Mural

Garrett Popcorn Shops®, in partnership with After School Matters and The Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Co., will host a Community Mural Unveiling at the Garrett Shop in Chatham, 737 E. 87th Street, on Monday, August 19.

Garrett will offer complimentary treat size bags of The Chicago Mix from noon – 2 p.m. on August 19* in celebration of “Sharing Handcrafted Happiness”, a mosaic and spray can art mural by Chicago artist Rahmaan “Statik” Barnes completed in partnership with After School Matters students from Kenwood Academy and Simeon Career Academy High Schools. The mural will be unveiled at 2 p.m.

“When we first opened our Shop at 87th Street, the Chatham community embraced us with open arms. We are thrilled to continue to support the growth of the neighborhood and the growth of these talented and ambitious students,” says Megan Chody, Director of Community Outreach for Garrett Popcorn Shops®.

Mural Statik

Enjoy a preview of the coming mural.

Kenwood and Simeon high school students*, under the guidance of artists Rahmaan “Statik” Barnes and Andy Bellomo, are creating a new mural for our 87th Street Shop (737 E. 87th Street). The mural project is a collaboration designed to give area students a rewarding, real-world experience creating art while exploring the possibilities of this as a career.

The mural will feature kids and music with a POP of everyone’s favorite gourmet popcorn. The completed project is expected to be revealed in late June.

87th/Cottage Grove Mural Garrett Popcorn Shops® is excited to collaborate once again with artist Rahmaan “Statik” Barnes and Kenwood and Simeon high school students via After School Matters to create a second mural for our 87th Street Shop (737 E. 87th Street). Long time Garrett Popcorn Shops® partner Chicago Trolley will provide transportation for the students.

Under the leadership of artists Statik and Andy Bellomo, students will incorporate elements of fun, sharing and happiness in a design that will complement Statik’s existing work, Global Intellect. The goal of the project is to give the students a rewarding, real-world experience creating art while exploring the possibilities of this career.
