Every year for St. Patrick’s Day, we pull out our favorite green apparel, eat some corned beef and cabbage, and head downtown for the big parade. For over 40 years now, Chicago celebrates St. Patrick’s Day by dyeing the river green. In the spirit of the occasion, we couldn’t help but think about some of the best Chicago Traditions. All of which are even more “Chicago” if you have a bag of Garrett Popcorn in your hand!

Tradition runs deep throughout our great city. Take Chicago sports for example. From the ’85 Bears and the Michael Jordan years, to the ’05 White Sox and the Stanley Cup winning Blackhawks, our teams have never failed to make us proud. The always-lovable Cubbies play at historic Wrigley Field and some might even consider their “Curse of the Billy Goat” a tradition (as painful as it might be)!

Beautiful buildings and numerous activities are steadfast Chicago traditions. That list includes: Millennium Park, Art Institute of Chicago, Sears Tower, Lake Michigan, The Magnificent Mile, John Hancock Observatory, and Navy Pier (to list a few).

There is no doubt that Chicagoans love their food – the ever-popular deep dish pizza or a Chicago-style hot dog continues to make the list. Piled high with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, a pickle, sport peppers and celery salt (everything EXCEPT ketchup!).

Here at Garrett Popcorn, we are honored to be considered a long-standing tradition in one of the greatest cities in the world. Since 1949, our gourmet popcorn has been a staple comfort food in the heart of Chicago. To truly get the Chicago experience, we invite you to try our mixture of cheese and caramel popcorn, known as The Chicago Mix. Visit our website, stop by one of our shops, or give us a call to treat yourself to a tin of Chicago history this St. Patrick’s day.
